Faculty

Mark H. Hyman, M.D., FACP, FAADEP, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCLA; Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine

Dr. Hyman is an internist with more than 20 years of experience and head of HymanHealth. A nationally recognized disability expert, Dr. Hyman provides medical-legal evaluations spanning the continuum of internal medicine for a wide variety of legal and insurance organizations. He has evaluated hundreds of workers’ compensation patients around the country – from NFL players to everyday workers - providing credible and thorough diagnoses, depositions and documentation, often using the state-of-science technology found in his office.

Dr. Hyman also serves as an Associate Professor on the clinical faculty at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA). He pursued medical school, internship, residency and fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Hyman is a highly sought-after lecturer, as well as an author of various medical-legal and internal medicine topics. Much of his work can be found in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including the Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Archives of Neurology, the American Family Physician, and the Journal of Occupational Environmental Medicine.

Over the years, Dr. Hyman has been a member of the AMA, American College of Physicians and the American College of Environmental and Occupational Medicine. His FACP designation acknowledges that he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and has served on the organization’s Governor’s Advisory Council. His FAADEP designation recognizes that he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. He is currently on the National Board of Directors for AADEP. Dr. Hyman has testified before the United States Congress as a national expert on disability issues. Dr. Hyman has received acclaim for his contributions to the medical world. In 2009, WebMD selected Dr. Hyman for its annual “Health Heroes” award. In addition, the City of Los Angeles recognized his involvement with the LA Police Department related to developing police arrest procedures.

Program Purpose / Objectives

The purpose of this CME activity is to review the management of patients with various disabilities and apply the AMA Guidelines for evaluation.

Preliminary Objectives for Activity:
At the conclusion of this CME activity, participants should be able to:
• Review the perspectives of various parties in disability evaluation
• Discuss the foundational concepts of the AMA Guides
• Review the chapters of the Guides and the methods used within those organ systems
• Discuss the overlap of pain and psychiatry in patient evaluation
• Utilize questionnaires in your practice based on the medical literature
• Differentiate between physician and legal colleagues of what constitutes important information
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.
