Dr. Severance’s areas of specialization place him squarely in some of todays most controversial and “talked about” topics. Program Purpose / Objectives

Preliminary Objectives for Activity:

Review those diseases which might have “WMD” capability
Provide the evolution of avian influenza, including its subtypes and strains
Discuss management for different types of heat-illness presentations
Review ACC/AHA level of evidence for chest pain interventions
Describe clinical pathways for assessment of chest pain patient in the ED
Recognize the most common life-threatening soft tissue infections in the ED
Discuss respiratory causes of shortness of breath (dyspnea)
Understand the differences between primary and secondary forms of hypothermia
Identify the many clinical disorders that can cause chest pain
Differentiate the mechanisms of blast injury from more familiar types of trauma
