Faculty

Robert T. Brodell, M.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Dermatology ; University of Mississippi; Jackson, Mississippi. Instructor in Dermatology, University of Rochester School of Medicine; Rochester, New York.

Dr. Robert T. Brodell, is graduate of Washington and Jefferson College (’75) and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (’79). Following two years of internal medicine training at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester he completed a Residency in Dermatology at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri and a dermatopathology Fellowship at this same institution. He has been in private practice for 27 years in Warren, Ohio and is director of Skin Pathology Services, Inc. Known for his passion for teaching, Dr. Brodell has performed 1,314 lectures and directed 30 symposia at local, regional, and national venues. He has 213 scientific publications, and is editor of one book Warts: Diagnosis and Management an Evidence-based Approach (2003). Dr.Brodell has reviewed articles for 28 journals and serves on the editorial board of two journals. He has participated in 32 multi-center clinical trials. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, travelling, and visiting his five children.


Stephen E. Helms, M.D., Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Dermatology Section, Northeast Ohio Medical University, Rootstown, Ohio; Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Dermatology, Case Western Reserve College of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Helms has been in private practice in Warren, Ohio for 33 years. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his Dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He has lectured at the local and national levels in addition to teaching medical students and Dermatology Residents part time at NEOMED and Case Western Reserve University College of Medicine. He has 39 scientific publications, is a reviewer for two journals, and has participated as an investigator or sub-investigator in several clinical trials. He has served on many hospital committees in addition to serving several years each as secretary and later as vice president of the medical staff. Other positions have included president of his county medical society, secretary of the Ohio State Dermatological Association, and Board Member of the Cleveland Dermatological Society. He enjoys fishing, reading, watching classic movies, and especially, traveling with his wife, two children and their families.

Program Purpose / Objectives

Following attendance at this educational activity, participants should be able to:
  • Review stepwise approach to evaluating patients with common skin conditions and diseases
  • Identify superficial fungus infections based on physical diagnostic criteria
  • Asses the clinical features and treatment of scabies and lice infections
  • Review the clinical features of herpes simplex, and herpes zoster infections
  • Discuss clues to the diagnosis of eczema
  • Review available drugs to treat psoriasis
  • Review the clinical features of Papillomavirus infection
  • Develop an understanding of the pathogenesis of acne
  • Recognize the clinical features of normal “moles” based on the natural history of these lesions
  • Review the indications for common surgical procedures
  • Review selected techniques in dermatologic surgery
  • Identify clinical features of common blistering diseases
Conference Sessions generally take place during the days at sea (as cruise itinerary allows) to avoid conflicts with Ports of Call or evening entertainment.
