Faculty

Michael Wilsey, M.D.

Dr. Wilsey is a Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Program Director, Pediatric Residency Training Program, University of South Florida College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Tampa, Florida.

He graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine, and completed residency training in Pediatrics and fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Texas Children's Hospital and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is an attending physician in Pediatric Gastroenterology in the Johns Hopkins Medical System at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dr. Wilsey is the Past-President of the Hillsborough County Pediatric Society as well as the former Florida Region V Representative of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Dr. Wilsey currently serves on the Medical Quality of Care Committee and the Pediatric Transplant Advisory Committee at All Children's Hospital and is a member of the Westchase Charitable Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Wilsey lives in Tampa, Florida with his beautiful wife and three teenage children. He enjoys reading, running, swimming, watching college and professional sports, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Patrick Mularoni, M.D.,

Dr. Patrick Mularoni is currently an attending physician practicing Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Johns Hopkins medical system at All Children's Hospital. He is a board-certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He completed his pediatric training at St. John Hospital in Detroit and his Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. His current areas of research interest include pain management and procedural sedation. Dr. Mularoni is the chair of the Medical Emergency Committee at all Children's Hospital overseeing all respiratory and cardiac arrest responses and preceding events. Dr. Mularoni is a member of the faculty at University of South Florida and enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. Is also active in community education through a weekly Fox news segment called Doctor on Call which teaches viewers about coming Pediatric illnesses and emergencies.

Dr. Mularoni lives in St. Petersburg, Florida with his wife who is a Pediatrician. He and his wife spend most of their free time with their three children under the age of 5. Dr. Mularoni is a triathlete who loves to train in the Florida sun.

Program Purpose / Objectives

The purpose of this CME activity is to provide a broad review of the general medical management of children.
Preliminary Objectives
  • Discuss the importance of early recognition and early diagnosis for IBD in children (both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) in order to prevent disease complications
  • Review current therapies for IBD
  • Describe the clinical manifestations (intestinal and extraintestinal) and potential complications of inflammatory bowel disease in children
  • Explain the role of serological testing in celiac disease
  • Outline the differential diagnosis of Esophagitis
  • List the presenting signs and symptoms of GERD
  • Discuss the epidemiology of Hepatitis B
  • Review the prevalence and significance of food allergies in young children
  • Explain the risk factors of Kernicterus
  • Evaluate the diagnosis and therapy for functional abdominal pain
  • Outline the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa

These are preliminary topics and are subject to change with additional input from faculty.
