Faculty

David H . Baras, M.D.,
Dr. Baras is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation(PM&R) and a Fellow in the American Academy of PM&R since 1985.Besides maintaining an active practice, he continues to be a Clinical Preceptor for the University of South Florida College of Medicine(since 1994) teaching first and second year medical students.

After Dr. Baras received his undergraduate degree from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, and then graduated with his medical degree, as a Chartered Member, from St. George's University School of Medicine in 1981.Dr. Baras completed his residency in PM&R at UCLA/V.A. Wadsworth Medical Centers in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Baras has been the "Arthritis Walk Chair" for his local Arthritis Foundation as well as past Medical Director of Bayfront Rehabilitation Center in St. Petersburg, Florida and Outpatient Medical Director of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Largo ,Florida where he developed programs and services for various medical and rehabilitation topics including Stroke,Fibromyalgia,Chronic Pain,Pain Management,Sports Injuries, Foot Disorders and Arthritis.

Presently, because of his expertise in Functional Lost and Disability, Dr. Baras is constantly asked to perform Independent Medical Examinations with special attention to motor vehicle accidents.

Mark Barasz, M.D., FACEP,
Dr. Barasz is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow in the American Academy of Emergency Medicine for over 25 years. He has practiced and taught Emergency Medicine in various settings from a level 1 trauma center to a 60,000 patient visit community hospital Emergency Department. He was chosen to receive the teacher's service award for Upstate Emergency Medicine Residency in 2004 as well as the Upstate Hospital President's teaching award.

Dr. Barasz received a biomed-MD degrees from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute of Technology and Albany Medical College in 1975. This was the first joint biomed-MD class for both these schools which required the students to finish both undergraduate and medical school in 6 years. He completed his residency in Family Medicine in 1978 and in 1980 started his 30 plus years emergency medicine at St Joseph Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York..

Dr. Barasz was the past Emergency Department Medical Director at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse. During his time there, Upstate Hospital with St. Joseph Hospital developed an Emergency Medicine residency for which his emergency department acted as the community arm for the EM residents. He lead a team of physicians and mid level providers which developed an occupation medical practice, an urgent care practice, an observation medicine practice, the first emergency department ultrasound program,. and oversaw the growth of the department from 35,000 patient visits to over 52, 000 patients per year.

Presently, Dr. Barasz continues to practice Emergency Medicine.

Objective: Differentiate functional recovery vs Neurological recovery.

Objective: Review and discuss acute chest pain syndromes and their presentations.

4. Rehab Interventions for Post M.I./C.A.B.G.
Objective: Implementing a cardiac/pulmonary rehab Program.

5. Minor Head Trauma
Objective: Understand literature and initial management

6. Post Concussion Syndrome and Rehabilitation
Objective: Understanding and implementing present guidelines for return to sports/work.

7. Acute Swollen Joint
Objective: Define appropriate interventions.

8. Rehabilitation of Common Musculoskeletal Disorders
Objective: Discuss varying treatment options that enhance function and quality of life.

9. Emergency Medicine Literature Review
Objective: Review of the most interesting articles this past year and how they might change your practice.

10. Management of Acute and Chronic Pain
Objective: Presentation of our pain pathways and how with the knowledge, practitioners can manage patients with pain and reduce potential adverse events.

11. Acute Dyspnea
Objective: Present relevant literature particularly as it relates to pulmonary emboli.

12. Exercise is Medicine
Objective: Discuss exercise prescriptions and programs for adults.

13. Acute Dilemmas in Bariatric Patients
Objective: Discuss the present literature about exercise interventions.

14. Acute Dilemmas in Bariatric Patients
Objective: Formulate plan based on present literature.

Conference Sessions generally take place during the days at sea (as cruise itinerary allows) to avoid conflicts with Ports of Call or evening entertainment.
