LEARNING WHILE CRUISING!
While enjoying a family fun 7-day, 7-night, Caribbean cruise,
Diabetes Camp at
Sea “campers” of all ages are able to learn more about type 1 diabetes
in children and adults from internationally recognized professionals including
pediatric endocrinologists, nurses and dietitians.
The Diabetes Camp at Sea cruise
is a unique learning environment designed especially for children with diabetes,
their parents, siblings, extended family, and friends living with the disease.
(Adults with type 1 diabetes and their family are encouraged to attend.)
During formal, professionally-led sessions, question and answer opportunities,
and small group discussions sprinkled throughout at-sea transit times, campers
will learn about the most up-to-date information regarding living healthy with
diabetes, medical breakthroughs in diabetes care, and cutting edge technologies.
The learning continues during informal settings such as poolside chats or dinner
table conversations as campers mingle with diabetes professionals and other
families facing similar challenges … and succeeding. Camp faculty is
eager to share their knowledge in all venues making this experience a memorable
one for everyone!
All informational sessions are included in the cost of the cruise.
DIABETES-FRIENDLY – FROM SHIP TO SHORE!
• Diabetes Emergencies
Parents can relax knowing the crew will be diabetes friendly. In addition to
the ship’s staff, camp specialists including pediatric endocrinologists
as well as diabetic nurses and dietitians will be on board who can not only
assist in a diabetic emergencies, but are also there to answer questions
and concerns about raising a child with diabetes.
• Diabetes Dietary Needs
Prior to sailing, camp dietitians will be working with the ship’s chef
and culinary staff to provide diabetes-friendly meals. They will also be providing
meals with carbohydrate count information.
FAMILY FUN FOR EVERYONE!
Much free time abounds so that Diabetes Camp at Sea campers can enjoy all that
the cruise ship and island ports of call (see below) have to offer. In addition,
children are offered their own programming … leaving parents to get
some well-deserved R&R while on board!
With its dramatic walls of glass and retractable canopy, Rhapsody of the Seas
will most definitely make campers feel closer to nature. When not enjoying
the magnificent ocean views, campers will be relaxing in the soothing ShipShape
Spa, swimming in one of the two pools, taking a much-needed whirlpool, or catching
up over a favorite drink in one of the ship’s eight lounges. This amazing
2,000-guest ship sails the Western Caribbean year-round.

Family cruising becomes 100% worry free enjoyment for parents and their children
on Royal Caribbean ships. The unique youth facility provides supervised, daily,
activities to entertain all age groups 3 to 17. You'll never hear your kids
say, "There's nothing to do!" The ship’s professional staff
provides fun of nearly every variety for young travelers. The highlight is
Adventure Science, a program conducted by a trained science staff that makes
education fun through a premium blend of hands-on science experience and entertainment.
Kids can also enjoy karaoke, sports, painting, talent shows, a computer lab,
video arcades, their own special menus at meal times, and much more.

The ship’s workout area includes recumbent Life cycles, Tectrix step
machines and virtual bikes, Cybex strength machines equipment stations, treadmills,
sauna and steam baths. The aerobics area has room for 35 participants, plus
huge wrap around windows for an amazing view of the ocean. Different levels
of various aerobic programs are available plus ping pong and volleyball to
meet any need.
