| Program Purpose / Objectives |
The purpose of this CME activity is to introduce new clinical paradigms, novel early detection technologies, and sophisticated laboratory tests for the prevention and management of a wide range of important medical problems. Coronary disease, cancer, sleep apnea, hypertension, dementia, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, and diabetes are among the diseases considered with a view towards noninvasive diagnosis and cost effective preventive care.
Preliminary Objectives for Activity:
"At the conclusion of this CME activity, participants should be able to:"
--Incorporate broad-based preventive medicine principles from “A to Z” into an office practice
--Identify and appropriately treat blood cholesterol abnormalities to prevent CHD events in patients at intermediate to high risk for CHD
--Apply standard of care lifestyle and pharmacologic guidelines to treat individuals with blood pressure elevations
--Provide dementia-prevention guidelines and early treatment to patients in an office practice
--Deliver travel medicine advice to international travelers
--Diagnose and appropriately treat male patients with decreased bone density
--Comfortably diagnose and treat bipolar disease in a primary care setting
--Discuss the full spectrum of metabolic syndrome and why it is important for the primary care physician to maintain a high level of awareness
--Appreciate how to integrate the results of coronary calcification imaging into conventional risk factor assessment
--Review the roles and limitations of emerging imaging and physiologic tests in preventive cardiology
--Develop a practical understanding of the unique aspects of heart disease in women
--Consider sleep apnea in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes and learn the value of recognition and treatment in younger individuals with non-classic signs
--Develop an appreciation of the roles and limitations of all colon cancer screening options and where CT colonography fits
--Individualize therapy based upon sophisticated lipoprotein analysis and new measures of inflammation
Conference Sessions generally take place during the days at sea (as cruise itinerary allows) to avoid conflicts with Ports of Call or evening entertainment.
