Sophie M. Balzora, MD, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and a practicing gastroenterologist at the NYU Langone Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center and NYU Langone Ambulatory Care West Side. She specializes in managing a comprehensive range of gastrointestinal conditions, with a primary clinical focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including the treatment of complex cases of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Dr. Balzora is deeply committed to advancing health equity and addressing disparities in gastrointestinal care. She is a recognized leader in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the medical community, serving as the founding president of the Association of Black Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists (ABGH). Her leadership extends to numerous national roles, including her past position as chair of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. She also serves on the advisory boards for the ACG’s Center for Leadership, Ethics & Equity and the Color of Gastrointestinal Illnesses (COGI).
Dr. Balzora earned her medical degree from George Washington University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the NYU School of Medicine. She is dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Utpal Pajvani, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at Columbia University, is a physician-scientist with clinical and research focus in Type 2 Diabetes and related metabolic diseases. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Biology in 1996, then earned MS (2001), MD (2005) and PhD (Department of Cell Biology, 2005) degrees from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Pajvani completed his internship and residency training and is board certified in Internal Medicine (2007) and fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism (2011), both at the Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Pajvani has been on the faculty of Columbia University since 2011. He is a teaching attending on the inpatient and outpatient Endocrinology and General Medicine services of the New York Presbyterian Hospital, and sees patients at the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia University.
Dr. Siddall is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at Columbia University Medical Center. He completed his medical residency and nephrology fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Siddall is a member of the Columbia Doctors Hypertension Center, a multi-disciplinary center of excellence that provides high quality care and state-of –the-art diagnostic testing for patients with hypertension.
Dr. Siddall sees patients with all forms of kidney disease and hypertension. His clinical interests include hypertension, electrolyte disorders, acid-base disorders, acute kidney injury, critical care nephrology, and capillary leak syndrome. He is the faculty leader of the Columbia medical student internal medicine interest group pathophysiology sessions.

While the Empire State Building is legendary, the strategic traveler heads to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center.
