Program Purpose / Objectives
The purpose of this CME activity is to present practical issues in modern preventive cardiology and cardiovascular CT imaging. The preventive cardiology discussion covers select topics of contemporary interest and will include the proper integration of plaque imaging data in risk assessment and stratification and principles of aggressive lipid intervention. The majority of the conference will provide the technical and practical information necessary for cardiologists and radiologists to develop a successful diagnostic cardiac CT program. Particular emphasis will be placed upon coronary calcium imaging (asymptomatic and symptomatic patients) and coronary CT angiographic techniques. Practical experience will be gained by the combination of illustrative case examples and actual experience on advanced imaging workstations. An important goal of the course is to allow the participant to progress towards certification in cardiac CT angiography.

Course directors Dr. Budoff and Weigold are established ACC Level 3 cardiac CT angiographers who have extensive teaching experience in both the cardiac and radiologic aspects of the field. Dr. Ehrlich served as course organizer.

Preliminary Topics for Discussion— Preventive Cardiology—
1. The “ABCs” of Preventive Cardiology
2. Sex and the Single Stress Test: Women and Heart Disease
3. Metabolic Syndrome: America’s New Pathway to Heart Disease and Diabetes
4. Coronary calcium— the early detection and aggressive prevention of coronary atherosclerosis
5. Noninvasive coronary imaging (asymptomatic and symptomatic) : An interactive multimedia case examples approach
6. Monitoring disease and drug effects---progression of atherosclerosis for the clinician

Basic and Advanced Aspects of Cardiac CT angiography
1. Cardiac CT anatomy--- and how it differs from cath anatomy
2. Procedural risk issues----recognizing and working with contrast, beta-blockers, radiation
3. Technical issues—pitfalls and artifact recognition
4. Practical—How to do CT coronary angiography
5. Controversies---Should Coronary CTA be used in Screening (pro/con)?
6. Special situations---soft plaque imaging, EP applications, peripheral vascular CT angiography
7. CTA case studies –real world examples analyzed
8. Workstations—How to edit, analyze and display great diagnostic images
9. How to run a successful preventive and diagnostic cardiac CT program---and actually get paid for it! (the nuances of reimbursement)
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.

Ports of Call
Hubbard Glacier - Marching to the beat of a different drum, Hubbard Glacier is advancing while the rest of Alaska's ice rivers are receding rapidly. In 1986, Hubbard galloped forward, closing off Russell Fjord to create an entirely new lake. The phenomenon quickly passed and was followed by a short retreat, but the glacier is once again on the move and Russell Fjord is headed for another spell as an inland body of water.
Juneau, Alaska - In Alaska's capital, taste salmon baked over an alderwood fire, pan for gold, flightsee the Juneau Ice Field, and walk right up to the Mendenhall Glacier.
Ketchikan, Alaska - Immerse yourself in Tlingit Indian culture as you view the world's largest collection of totem poles; kayak the colorful waterfront. Port tips from our blog
Seattle, Washington - The Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest. In Seattle, stroll the bustling waterfront, visit the Space Needle, sample a local microbrew, a glass of Washington wine and world-famous coffee.
Sitka, Alaska - Step back to the days of Russian Alaska as you watch lively performances of the New Archangel Dancers and view holy paintings of the Czarists' days.
Victoria, British Columbia - Stroll through the charming downtown of this very British city, with its double-decker buses, turreted castles, fine British woolens, tea and china. Or, just outside the city, visit the lush flora and fauna of Butchart Gardens.

Cruise Line cancellation policies are strictly enforced. For that reason, we urge all of our travelers to carefully consider whether travel insurance is a good value for them.

Certainly, if you have reason to think that "something might come up" that might force you to cancel, travel insurance is worth the cost of the premium. Examples we've seen in the past include ill or frail family members and changes in employment causing relocation.

If travel insurance is the right choice for you, we recommend TravelSafe. To visit their site and explore your options click here or on the link above; this link allows you to price out the insurance plan you prefer. The cruise lines also offer travel insurance and we'd be happy to help you go that route if you'd prefer.
