Program Purpose / Objectives
The purpose of this CME activity is to introduce new clinical paradigms, novel early detection technologies, and sophisticated laboratory tests for the prevention and management of a wide range of important medical problems. Coronary disease, cancer, sleep apnea, hypertension, dementia, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, and diabetes are among the diseases considered with a view towards noninvasive diagnosis and cost effective preventive care.

Preliminary Objectives for Activity:
"At the conclusion of this CME activity, participants should be able to:
· Understand new paradigms in preventive cardiology: Apply noninvasive atherosclerosis imaging tools and new blood tests to evaluate coronary risk and target correct individuals for therapy.
· Appreciate novel techniques ("virtual" imaging, biomarkers, cytology, etc) in the early detection of common cancers.
· Discuss emerging concepts in the detection, evaluation and aggressive prevention of common clinical disorders including hypertension, osteoporosis, coronary disease, metabolic syndrome, dementia and erectile dysfunction.
· Evaluate diagnostic methods for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) detection and understand the relationships between sleep disordered breathing and cardiovascular disease.
· Discuss controversies surrounding anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet medications, anti-oxidants, diets, hormone replacement therapy, stress tests, self-referral and predictive genomics.
· Determine how recent cholesterol and blood pressure trials will affect office management of hypertension, diabetes and lipids.
· Develop a practical approach to the evaluation of heart disease in women.
· Appreciate contemporary issues in travel medicine.
· Understand principles of modern preoperative cardiac risk assessment and methods to reduce peri-operative coronary events
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.

Cruise Line cancellation policies are strictly enforced. For that reason, we urge all of our travelers to carefully consider whether travel insurance is a good value for them.

Certainly, if you have reason to think that "something might come up" that might force you to cancel, travel insurance is worth the cost of the premium. Examples we've seen in the past include ill or frail family members and changes in employment causing relocation.

If travel insurance is the right choice for you, we recommend TravelSafe. To visit their site and explore your options click here or on the link above; this link allows you to price out the insurance plan you prefer. The cruise lines also offer travel insurance and we'd be happy to help you go that route if you'd prefer.
