Program Purpose / Objectives

1. Prevention and management of surgical complications during dentoalveolar surgery.
2. Treatment planning for dental implant surgery.
3. Medically compromised patients.
4. Bone grafting in conjunction with dental implants.
5. Preprosthetic surgery.

Objectives
1. Understand treatment modifications required when doing surgical procedures on a variety of medically compromised patients.
2. Understand the options available to augment atrophic alveolar bone in preparation for dental implant placement.
3. Be able to recognize and treat a variety of post operative complications encountered when doing oral surgery procedures.
4. Understand the surgical techniques involved in a variety of preprosthetic surgery procedures.
5. Understand the treatment planning involved with dental implant surgery.
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.

Faculty
Dr. Glenn Reside joined the UNC faculty in July 2003. He is the Director of Dental Student Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery education and the primary faculty for dental implantology in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program. His interests include dentoalveolar surgery, outpatient anesthesia, and the treatment of pathology and trauma to the facial bones. Dr Reside was the recipient of the 2006 Richard F. Hunt Memorial Award recognizing excellence in teaching.
He earned a BS degree in Chemistry at Illinois College, a MS degree in Biochemistry at the University of Illinois, and a DMD degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Immediately after undergraduate college he entered military service and became a Special Forces Officer assigned to Vietnam. Upon return to the US, he went to dental school and completed a General Practice Residency at Womack Army Hospital in Fort Bragg, NC and an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. During his military career he served as the Chief, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at army hospitals in Germany, Virginia, Kansas, and NC. His last assignment was as the Program Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program and Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC. After retiring from the military he became the Section Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Reside and his wife Karin, have two children. Karin is a homemaker and a medical reference librarian. Jonathan is a Perio resident at UNC and Connor is recent graduate of NC State University.

Additional Information: All staterooms are equipped with sofa, television and telephone. Refrigerators for oceanview and interior staterooms available upon request depending on availability. Access to internet via on-board "Internet Cafe" as well as select WIFI - hotspots throughout the ship (usage fee applies). Royal Caribbean has installed cellular technologies aboard their ships that allow you to use your cell phone anywhere the ship happens to be. International roaming fees apply so you should check with your cell phone provider beforehand as these fees can be high. Not all staterooms within each category have the same furniture configuration and/or facilities. Prices include current taxes and port charges as well as all shipboard meals, entertainment and activities. Not included: transportation to the ship, certain beverages and gratuities.
