Program Purpose / Objectives

The Pediatric Dental Course You Wished You’d Had in Dental School

This program will be a comprehensive look at the art and science of pediatric dentistry. Topics will range from behavior management to many clinical skills necessary to bring high quality care for children in a dental practice. Issues unique to the specialty, including pulp therapy, space maintenance, local anesthesia, growth and development, oral habits, dealing with parents and others will bring the attendees far in their abilities to welcome young patients into their practices. A variety of new materials and techniques will also be introduced. For those who have concerns about seeing children, this program will allay those fears and help you see that having pediatric patients is arguably the most fun and rewarding aspect of our profession. Specific topics include:

  • If You Can’t Beat ‘em, Enjoy Them (Behavior management)
  • So Little Room, So Much to See (The complete pediatric dental examination)
  • Restore Your Confidence in Pediatric Restorative Care (with focus on the advanced procedures that are often difficult for practitioners, such as stainless steel crowns, primary pulp therapy and local anesthesia)
  • Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontics (Space maintenance and growth and development)

Learning objectives:

  • Understand why parents are not a problem when handled well
  • Learn why prioritization and sequencing of appointments is crucial for children
  • See why every pediatric dental examination is a new patient examination
  • Know the importance of radiographs in the evaluation of the developing child
  • Discover innovations that enhance care for children
  • Learn why the infant exam has become the standard of care
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.

Ports of Call
Cozumel, Mexico - The Conquistadors first saw Mexico from the shores of Cozumel while searching for gold. Today, visitors to the island continue to seek out gold and silver jewelry in the shops of San Miguel while having a great time in its many local bars and restaurants. Plus, the waters around Cozumel's sheltered coral reefs make this one of the best snorkeling areas in the world.
Falmouth, Jamaica - Step off the ship and step back in time. You might not think so at first glance but little Falmouth was an economic and shipping powerhouse and center for dramatic social change during the English Colonial Period. Founded and named Martha Brae Point in 1769 by local English planter, Thomas Reid, Falmouth became the transshipment hub for the sugar plantations covering the hills of the North Coast of Jamaica. Edward Barrett, a wealthy English planter, strongly influenced the early development of Falmouth. From the wharfs of Falmouth, sugar, molasses, rum and coffee were sent to England while ships carrying African slaves and all the necessities of 18th century colonial life dropped anchor in the bustling port town. You'll return with sun kissed skin, timeless memories as well as interesting historical tidbits to share with friends, like this one: Falmouth received piped water before New York City.
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida - There is an abundance of things to see and do in the Ft. Lauderdale area: visit the newly redesigned Ft. Lauderdale Beach and cafes, stroll the historic Riverwalk, shop the luxurious stores on Las Olas Boulevard or adventure to the Everglades for an intriguing air boat excursion.
George Town, Grand Cayman - The premier attraction here is Seven Mile Beach...white as snow, soft as talc. Name your game and you'll find it here: Snorkeling, swimming, sailing, windsurfing over rippling waves, or gliding under them in a passenger submarine. Or perhaps shopping is your game. Duty-free bargains abound: crystal, perfume, jewelry fashioned of silver and prized pink coral.
Labadee, Haiti - This tropical paradise, reserved exclusively for Royal Caribbean guests, features pristine beaches, walking trails and breathtaking vistas. Labadee is the perfect setting for parasailing, wave runners and the kayak tour, all available on your own private island.

Cruise Line cancellation policies are strictly enforced. For that reason, we urge all of our travelers to carefully consider whether travel insurance is a good value for them.

Certainly, if you have reason to think that "something might come up" that might force you to cancel, travel insurance is worth the cost of the premium. Examples we've seen in the past include ill or frail family members and changes in employment causing relocation.

If travel insurance is the right choice for you, we recommend TravelSafe. To visit their site and explore your options click here or on the link above; this link allows you to price out the insurance plan you prefer. The cruise lines also offer travel insurance and we'd be happy to help you go that route if you'd prefer.
