Gisela Schlosser, BA, MD, CCFP, FCFP
Department of Family Medicine, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Dr. Schlosser has been a Family Physician for 25 years, and she has a diverse practice. For 14 years, she worked in Kahnawake, Mohawk Territory south of Montreal. She was responsible for a busy office practice of 3000 patients and covered a 40 bed inpatient department with colleagues.

During the same time, she was affiliated with McGill University as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and supervised Family Medicine residents in their clinics and obstetrics/delivery practice. Throughout her medical practice, she has maintained Emergency Room skills by regular shifts. Since her move to Nova Scotia 12 years ago, her work has been mostly in the Emergency Room. An exception would be inpatient work at the Lillian Fraser Hospital in Tatamagouche. At present, she is working at the Cobequid Emergency Room and sometimes the QEII as a locum for a geriatric ward with the Family Medicine Unit.

She is always looking for new challenging ways to practice medicine, and she works occasionally as a ship physician on cruise ships. Dr. Schlosser offers helpful lectures dealing in addictions and mental health. No matter the practice venue, psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression and addictions are common and challenging problems for primary care physicians and specialists, and she provides current management guidelines as well as real accounts from her long experience as a primary care physician.

Ports of Call
Barcelona, Spain (Embark) - Barcelona is a one of a kind, world-class city. While away the day exploring the beautiful, tree-shaded Las Ramblas. Or, marvel at its fantastic Art Nouveau architecture, with dozens of buildings that seem to have been sculpted from the stuff of dreams, like the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. For the more worldly, shop for exquisite Lladro ceramics, chic spanish fashions or enjoy a cuisine that many say has rival's the French for the title of world's best.
Cannes, France - When Lord Brougham, Chancellor of Britain was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Cannes on his journey to Italy, he was captivated by the natural setting of the village. Each winter he returned to Cannes which began a tourism industry as England's wealthy flocked to spend their holidays here. Today the rich and famous come from all over the world to participate in the elite Cannes Festival, which honors filmmakers from the world over.
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy - Plan your time here carefully, as the Eternal City's sights are endless: the Colosseum, the Forum, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican and so much more.
Dubrovnik, Croatia - This ancient city is set on a peninsula and surrounded by a 1,000 year old protective wall. Said to be one of the prettiest spots in the world, visitng it's old-city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is like stepping back in time. Or into another world, Dubrovnik is the principal filming location for King's Landing from the blovkbuster book (and television series) "Game of Thrones."
Kotor, Montenegro - Though small, this city is vibrant and shining and its people are happy to share their city with all who come.
Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Italy - In Florence view the timeless treasures: the lofty Duomo, Giotto's bell tower, Michelangelo's David, the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio over the Arno. In Pisa, see the famous Tower, still standing, if crookedly, after 650 years.
Sète (for Carcassonne) - Along the southwestern coast of France near the dramatic range of Pyrenees Mountains is France's region of Languedoc and the port of Sète. This fishing village is gateway to Montpellier to the north. This historic city was the 12th century site of Europe's first medical school, established after years of growing and trading medicinal plants. The school became a university in 1289. Under the reign of Louis XIV, Montpellier was the capital of lower Languedoc, and the city rapidly expanded.
Split, Croatia - The second largest city in Croatia, Split has many attractions but is best known for the many historical landmarks found within and around the walls of Diocletian's Palace and the 1700-year old harbour beneath it. The Old Town which comprises the palace is in a remarkable state of preservation. In addition, the Split-Dalmatia County has numerous museums, old churches and other archeological sites which make it an important cultural attraction. History, culture, scenic countryside and the sunny weather make Split a sought after destination for vacationers and water sports lovers.
Venice, Italy (Debark) - Venice is possibly the most romantic place you'll ever visit. It seems almost redundant to describe the charms of Venice. The cafes of St. Mark's Square, Palazzo-lined canals plied by gondolas, the elegant Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore: Venice is one impossibly beautiful sight after next. A great collection of Renaissance era art is housed at Gallerie dell'Accademia. Or, if you prefer modern art, Venice is home to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. And, if you want to enjoy a truly special meal while here, visit one of the excellent restaurants of the Associazione dei Ristoranti della Buona Accoglienza.
