Dr. José Darío Martínez Villarreal is a dual-specialist physician in internal medicine and dermatology, serving as Professor of Medicine and Dermatology at the University of Monterrey (UDEM) and practicing at Christus Muguerza High Specialty Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the Facultad de Medicina at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). He completed his internal medicine residency through the UANL University Hospital and Christus Muguerza Hospital, followed by dermatology residency training at the Hospital General de México (UNAM) and a G.E.S.T. fellowship in dermatology and cutaneous surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
A prominent figure in international dermatology and academic medicine, Dr. Martínez Villarreal serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Dermatology and is an International Honorary Member of the American Dermatological Association, where he chairs the International Honorary Membership Committee. His contributions to global dermatology have been recognized with the Presidential Citation from the American Academy of Dermatology, and he has served as a recurring Visiting Professor at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Martínez Villarreal is an active clinical investigator and author, contributing numerous textbook chapters and peer-reviewed studies to leading publications, including the International Journal of Dermatology, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, and Dermatología Revista Mexicana. His clinical and academic focus centers on hospital dermatology and the complex intersection of internal medicine and skin diseases, with dedicated expertise in severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions—such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and DRESS syndrome—as well as generalized pustular psoriasis, autoimmune bullous diseases, and tropical dermatology.
