Charles B. Nemeroff, MD, PhD, is the Matthew P. Nemeroff Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin. Within the department, he directs the Institute for Early Life Adversity Research as part of the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences, and co-directs the Charmaine and Gordon McGill Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy. Prior to joining Dell Med, Dr. Nemeroff was Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Clinical Director of the Center on Aging at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He received his medical and doctorate degrees in neurobiology from the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine.

Elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2002, Dr. Nemeroff has received numerous honors, including awards from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP). He has served on the NIMH Mental Health Advisory Council and the NASA Biomedical Research Council, and is a past President of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA). An extensively published researcher with over 1,200 reports and reviews, his NIH-funded work focuses on the pathophysiology of mood and anxiety disorders, particularly the role of child abuse and neglect as a major risk factor. He is also the co-editor in chief of the Textbook of Psychopharmacology and Personalized Medicine in Psychiatry.
