Dr. Mahnaz Fatahzadeh obtained her B.Sc. and DMD degrees, as well as her General Practice Residency certificate, from the University of British Columbia in Canada. She completed her Oral Medicine fellowship and MSD degree at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and holds a faculty appointment as a Professor and Director of the Division of Oral Medicine and Oral Mucosal Diseases Clinic at RSDM, as well as an attending at University Hospital in Newark, NJ.
Dr. Fatahzadeh is an inductee of the New York Academy of Medicine, the Stuart D. Cook, M.D. Master Educators' Guild, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (the national dental honor society), the International College of Dentists, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and the National Academies of Practice. She has a special interest in the evaluation and management of oral mucosal disorders, including oral cancer. She has lectured and published extensively in this area and has served as the Chair of the NY/NJ Oral Cancer Consortium, a member of the New Jersey Oral/Oropharyngeal Cancer Work Group, and a member of the National Resource Committee of the AIDS Education and Training Center.
Dr. Fatahzadeh is a strong advocate for interprofessional education and communication aimed at improving patient care. She is a 2025 recipient of the Rutgers Health Distinguished Interprofessional Clinical Educator Award for her work with health professionals across various disciplines to highlight the connection between oral and systemic health and the importance of oral health in primary care.
