PROGRAM PURPOSE
Purpose Statement: Artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly changing the landscape of nursing and impacting the future for healthcare providers, patients and their loved ones. As the healthcare industry scrambles to keep up with recent changes in technology, nurses must prepare for a time when AI technologies will be utilized to meet the evolving needs of patients in many healthcare settings. The use of AI technologies in healthcare began with the introduction of theoretical concepts in the 1950s but has expanded to include practical applications to diagnosis and care delivery. AI has the potential to enhance nursing, but the healthcare industry must be careful to avoid overreliance on technological shortcuts that threaten safe staffing and appropriate patient care. The successful integration of AI in nursing will depend on ongoing education, appropriate safeguards, and a commitment to maintaining the compassionate, patient-centered approach that defines the profession. To receive CHs/CEUs, all participants are required to attend all face-to-face sessions of the program, complete all in-session program assignments, complete an evaluation form, and develop an action plan to help achieve accountability at the bedside.
Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this program, the licensed healthcare practitioner will be able to identify current and potential roles for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in nursing care, adopt strategies to successfully integrate AI in nursing while delivering safe and ethical care and navigate the increasingly technology-driven healthcare environment.
Objectives:
Define Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Explore the historical context of AI in healthcare
Recognize the current role of AI in nursing and healthcare
Appraise potential roles for AI in nursing and healthcare
Examine ethical issues surrounding the implementation of AI in nursing and healthcare
Review how the use of AI impacts the Nurse Practice Act and nursing practice
Discuss the legal implications of AI use in healthcare and nursing
Review the social implications of AI use in patient care settings
Analyze nursing workforce implications of AI in healthcare
Examine the current and future use of AI in nursing education
Formulate strategies to protect nursing practice in the era of AI

PORTS OF CALL
Shanghai (Baoshan), China - Shanghai is not only the biggest city in China, but also its dynamic heart. Ancient traditions and cutting-edge modernity meet in spectacular fashion here, and the city dazzles at every turn.
Since your cruise both begins and ends in Shanghai (Baoshan), it’s the perfect opportunity to extend your adventure. Spend a few extra days before or after your sailing to dive deeper into the city’s rich cultural scene. Shop along the neon-lit Nanjing Road, wander the serene paths of Yu Garden, explore world-class museums, and sample everything from street food to fine dining. Shanghai sets the stage for an unforgettable pre- and post-cruise experience!
Jeju (Seogwipo), South Korea - The mystique and folklore of Jeju Island follow you wherever you go on South Korea’s largest island. Once a retreat for honeymooners, it now offers a balance of seaside relaxation and unique adventures. Explore caves and waterfalls, visit quirky spots like the Teddy Bear Museum, or stroll through the buzzing Yeon-Dong Shopping District.
Nature is never far away! Climb Hallasan, a dormant volcano, or head underground into one of the world’s longest lava tunnels. Stop by the O’Sulloc Tea Museum to learn about Korea’s tea culture, then savor grilled abalone or a traditional seafood hot pot, prepared by Jeju’s legendary female divers, the Haenyeo.
At Sea - Cruising - Cruising
Kyoto (Maizuru), Japan - While Maizuru may be your gateway to Kyoto, this seaside city has charms of its own. Explore Maizuru Red Brick Park, where historic warehouses recall Japan’s naval past, or visit local temples tucked into forested hills. Just outside town, Amanohashidate—a scenic sandbar lined with pine trees—is one of Japan’s most celebrated views.
Of course, Kyoto’s timeless beauty is within reach, about 90 minutes away. Wander through the thousands of vermilion gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine or take in the skyline from Kyoto Tower. Whether you stay local or make the journey inland, this stop blends quiet discovery with iconic highlights.
Niigata, Japan - Niigata is the place to go to experience Japan's natural bounty. With four seasons of dramatic beauty — with a full month of cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, golden hues in autumn and snow-capped mountains in winter —this port city on the Sea of Japan is a nature lover's dream. Cruise to Niigata and head to Bandai Pier, where you can sample the most famed white fish in Japan from the local vendors. Explore the Niigata's opulent history at the tatami-clad Northern Culture Museum. Indulge your inner geek at the interactive Niigata Manga and Animation Museum. Or take the cable car to the summit of Yuzawa — you can ski here in winter and take in panoramic views year-round.
Hakodate, Japan - Hakodate is perhaps the most underrated Japanese city between the trio of Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and Yokohama, but that’s a good thing. Exploring here is laid back, and the city teems with great views and international influence. The overlook from Mount Hakodate and the area’s fresh seafood in particular are certainly worth your while! Explore the Western-style forts of Motomachi, which is surrounded by 19th century-influenced architecture. They’re a symbol of the port’s openness during a time when Japan isolated itself from international trade. Take a romantic stroll at night while the trees glitter with string lights. No matter what you choose, there’s plenty to do in Hakodate, whether that’s savoring a traditional tea ceremony or seeing the cherry blossoms at Fort Goryokaku.
