DESCRIPTION

This extensive workshop will be a full day course with the utilization of a reusable suture pad, anesthesia tips, 4-0 nylon suture, a disposable stapler. Dermabond and other newer products about to come on the market will be covered, as an introduction to the use of a bio-adhesive in the care of lacerations.

Instructors demonstrate each technique, observe students as they practice each skill and guide each student while they practice.

This course provides 6 Hours of the Continuing Emergency Care Education Hours required to sit for the ANCC Emergency NP Exam under option 1.

Taught by national and international speaker and emergent, urgent, and primary care procedure expert Dr. Theresa Campo, Exam Essentials will help you expand and enhance your clinical skills.

EXAM ESSENTIALS WORKSHOP TOPICS

Spine Imaging Criteria and Interpretation & Orthopedic X-ray Interpretation Cervical Spine Imaging Criteria and Interpretation Based on the differential diagnosis of the cervical spine, learn:
  • When and how to choose appropriate medical imaging studies of the cervical spine including radiographs, CT, and MRI.
  • To interpret radiographs with some CT and MRI comparisons.
Thoracic and Lumbar Spine Imaging Criteria and Interpretation Based on the differential diagnosis of the thoracic and lumbar spine, learn:
  • When and how to choose appropriate medical imaging studies of the thoracic and lumbar spine including radiographs, CT, and MRI.
  • To interpret radiographs with some CT and MRI comparisons.
Orthopedic X-Ray Interpretation Based on the mechanism of injury, pain, and clinical findings, learn:
  • What and when to order, and how to interpret radiographs of the upper and lower extremities.
Select CT and MRI images will also be used to enhance discussions.
Conference Sessions generally take place on days at sea (as itinerary allows), giving you plenty of time to enjoy your meals, evenings and ports of call with your companion, family and friends.

Faculty
Robert M. Blumm

Bob Blumm served as a Combat Medic in the Republic of Vietnam from 1965-1967. He was one of the pioneer PA's beginning his career in 1970 as a Cardiothoracic PA.

He has been a First Assistant in surgery since 1970. Presently, he is the regional manager of USA Medical Services PC. He is the Senior PA and Educator in an 85,000 visit per year Emergency Department at a Long Island Hospital and is the Administrative Surgical PA at two hospitals.

Bob is a Clinical Instructor of Surgery and Emergency Medicine at Hofstra University. He is a Past President of the New York State Society of Physician Assistants, the Immediate Past President of the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants, Past Chairman of the Surgical Congress of the AAPA, and for the past five years served as AAPA Liaison to the American College of Surgeons.

He is the author of over 100 editorials and clinical articles and serves as an Editorial Board Member of four professional journals and is the President Elect of the American College of Clinicians. He will now represent NP's and PA's to the ACS as the Surgical Liaison from the ACC.

Theresa M. Campo, DNP, FNP-C, ENP-BC, FAANP, ENP-C

Dr. Campo presents urgent and primary care topics including Exam Essentials; Radiology Diagnostic Fundamentals: When & What to Order; Chest X-ray Interpretation: A Systematic Approach; Dental Examinations: Identifying Common Disorders; and Ophthalmology Examinations: Identifying Common Disorders.

Dr. Campo is an Associate Professor and Co-Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner track at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She is an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University for DNP committees. She also works part-time as a nurse practitioner in the Emergency Department at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, NJ.

Dr. Campo has precepted nurse practitioner students from the University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson University, the Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, and Stockton University. Dr. Campo received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from Widener University in Chester, PA.

Dr. Campo has over 27 years of experience in emergency medicine, including pre-hospital, emergency department/quick care, and trauma. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner (AANP) and Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ANCC). She is licensed in New Jersey as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse-Nurse Practitioner.

Theresa is a founding board member of the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Campo was the Vice-Chair of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) content expert panel for Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification and was the first ENP-BC in New Jersey.

Dr. Campo was awarded the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) State Award for Excellence in 2011. Dr. Campo is a national and international lecturer.

Theresa co-authored Essential Procedures for Practitioners in Emergency, Urgent, and Primary Care Settings: A Clinical Companion, 2nd edition. Dr. Campo serves on the editorial board of Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal. Dr. Campo has also authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles.
