Dr. Sandra Argenio served as a Consultant in the Department of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic Florida and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Mayo Medical School. She joined Mayo Clinic in 1992 and continues as an Emeritus member of the Family Medicine Department. Dr. Argenio has nurtured new generations of doctors, was instrumental in the development of the Family Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic Florida and served as the program’s first residency director. She has trained and mentored over 150 family medicine residents.

Dr. Argenio served as the President of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians in 2005 and has been active on many committees of the FAFP and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

She has been active in CME program planning at Mayo Clinic and the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, conducting Maintenance of Certification Workshop sessions on multiple topics for over 1,100 participants at FAFP meetings.

Dr. Argenio had a leading role in establishing communication training at Mayo Clinic starting in 2005. She was Chair of the Mayo Clinic Florida Communication Faculty.

She developed coursework for faculty and trainees at Mayo Clinic, including Longitudinal Research in Academic Medicine, Family Medicine Residency, Scottsdale, Arizona; and Team Communication, Strengthening the Cornerstone of Teamwork at Mayo Clinic’s three campuses. She also served on the Florida Governor’s Physician Workforce Advisory Board.

Dr. Argenio was awarded the Exemplary Teacher Award by FAFP in 2000. She also received the Outstanding Florida Family Medicine Education Award by FAFP in 2000, and the Mayo Distinguished Educator Award in 2003. She was listed as one of Jacksonville’s Best Doctors by Jacksonville Magazine from 2000 to 2014. She has published on the topics of presence, reflective listening and communicating effectively with female patients.

In her current work, she has collaborated in designing curricula and delivering programs at multiple hospitals, hospice organizations, and veterans administration and military healthcare organizations.

Dr. Argenio is a graduate of Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Hahnemann Medical University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania in 1982. She resides in Ormond Beach, Florida, with her husband Tom Sperrazza and daughter Jessie.

Robert Fogerty, MD, MPH, SFHM

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Boston College, Robert L. Fogerty received his MD and MPH degrees from Northwestern University and completed training in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital. In 2011, he joined the Yale faculty as a founding member of the Academic Hospitalist Program. His academic interests include safety and quality of care in the inpatient setting and cost-effective care. Publications include the Journal of Hospital Medicine, JAMA Internal Medicine, and The New England Journal of Medicine.

He is the Co-Founder and Past-President of the Society of Hospital Medicine Connecticut Chapter. He also served as the Co-Director of the Future Leaders and VITAL training programs for the High Value Practice Academic Alliance (HVPAA) and is the Co-Founder and a Steering Committee Member of the Hospital Capacity Management Consortium, for which he previously served as Steering Committee Chair.

In his current role as Senior Medical Director, Clinical Leadership, Dr. Fogerty reports to the Chief Medical Officer and works to support medical directors across multiple clinical disciplines in clinical operations, professional development, and corporate compliance.

Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida

Let's be direct: Port Canaveral itself is a working port, not a destination you explore on foot. Its true value is as a gateway to some of Central Florida’s most iconic, and distinctly different, attractions. The decision you make here will define your day.

The most compelling and convenient choice is the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, located just minutes away. This is not a simple museum; it's a world-class tribute to human ingenuity. Standing beneath the colossal Saturn V rocket, the most powerful ever built, is a genuinely humbling experience. The Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit is equally profound, offering an up-close look at the legendary orbiter. For anyone with even a passing interest in science or history, this is an essential, full-day experience that is unique to this specific port.

Of course, Orlando's theme parks loom large, about a 45- to 60-minute drive inland. A day trip is certainly feasible, but it requires precise planning. You’ll need to choose one park—be it a dive into the magic of Disney or the thrills of Universal—and accept that you'll be on a tight schedule. It’s a fantastic option if a specific park is a must-do, but be prepared for a long, high-energy day with significant travel time.

For a more relaxed alternative, embrace the local 'Space Coast' culture. Nearby Cocoa Beach offers a classic Florida beach town vibe, complete with the iconic Ron Jon Surf Shop. For nature lovers, a guided kayak tour through the Banana River or Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge can reveal manatees and diverse birdlife, offering a peaceful counterpoint to the region's high-tech attractions.

Coco Cay, Bahamas

Let's be clear: Coco Cay is not a port for cultural immersion; it's a private island meticulously engineered for a perfect day of sun and fun. At Sea - Cruising

Cozumel, Mexico

Let's be direct: Cozumel is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, and it's essential to have a plan to navigate the crowds and find its genuine highlights. The island's global reputation is built on what lies just offshore: the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. For divers and snorkelers, this is a premier, bucket-list destination. The clear, warm water and vibrant coral formations of sites like the Palancar and Colombia reefs are genuinely world-class. For an accessible taste without a dedicated boat trip, parks like Chankanaab or the more remote Punta Sur Eco Beach Park offer excellent snorkeling directly from shore, combined with beaches and other amenities.

Many are drawn by the allure of Mayan ruins, but here’s a critical piece of advice: the famous sites like Tulum and Coba are on the mainland, not on Cozumel. If you stay on the island, the main town of San Miguel offers a bustling waterfront and a dizzying array of shops. We recommend walking a few blocks inland from the main tourist thoroughfare to find more authentic local restaurants for a fantastic lunch. For pure relaxation, Cozumel’s beach clubs are a popular and effective choice. They range from lively, all-inclusive party spots with water toys to more serene, upscale retreats where the focus is on a good book and a great cocktail. You can easily find one that matches your pace. Cozumel is a highly developed tourism hub that excels at water sports and beach relaxation; embrace it for these strengths, and you’ll have a fantastic day.

Roatan, Honduras

Roatan’s reputation is built on one magnificent, undeniable asset: its location on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest in the world. For anyone with an interest in the underwater world, this is a premier, world-class destination. The snorkeling and diving here are not just activities; they are the main event, offering accessible, vibrant coral gardens and a rich diversity of marine life just offshore.

Beyond the reef, Roatan delivers a classic, high-quality Caribbean beach experience. The key is choosing the right spot for your mood. West Bay Beach is the island’s postcard-perfect star, with powdery white sand and calm, turquoise waters ideal for a relaxing day. This isn’t a destination for deep cultural immersion or historical sightseeing. It is, quite simply, a stunning natural paradise. Embrace it for what it is: an exceptional opportunity to swim, snorkel, or simply relax on one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful shorelines.

Costa Maya, Mexico

It’s best to think of Costa Maya not as a historic town, but as a modern, purpose-built gateway to the southern Yucatán’s authentic treasures. The port itself is a clean, self-contained village with pools, shops, and restaurants—a perfectly pleasant, if manufactured, way to spend a few hours. For a more genuine experience, we highly recommend venturing beyond its walls.

A short taxi ride brings you to the neighboring fishing village of Mahahual. Here, a laid-back beachfront boardwalk, or *malecón*, is lined with local restaurants and unpretentious beach clubs, offering a true taste of coastal Mexican life. The real cultural highlight, however, is the access to lesser-visited Mayan ruins. An excursion to the Chacchoben ruins offers a fascinating and accessible glimpse into ancient history, set within the jungle and free from the overwhelming crowds of more famous sites. For pure natural beauty, the nearby Bacalar Lagoon—the famed “Lagoon of Seven Colors”—provides a stunningly beautiful and tranquil setting for a day on the water.
