Bill Hinnant, Principal in the firm Medicolegal Consultants, LLC, is a Urologist and Health Care Attorney admitted to the South Carolina trial and appellate courts, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. His legal practice focuses on medical malpractice, qui tam litigation, administrative health law, white collar crime, drug matters, insurance law, healthcare business and transactions, workers compensation and social security disability. His medical interests include infertility, reproductive endocrinology, oncology, voiding dysfunction, renovascular disease and general urology. He is a long-term member of his state’s Federal Criminal Justice Act Attorney Panel with expertise in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Hinnant is Past President and Counsel of the American College of Legal Medicine. He has authored amicus briefs and regulatory comments for national medical organizations. He has advised or represented over 250 physicians in licensing, peer review and credentialing matters. He is active in assisting physicians and attorneys with substance abuse and addiction and is Membership Chair for the World Association for Medical Law. He is an Adjunct Assoc. Professor of Public Health Sciences at Clemson University, an Instructor in Health Law at Limestone College and has served as a Final Moot Court Judge twice at the National Health Law Moot Court Competition held at the Southern Indiana University College of Law.
Hinnant and his wife, Virginia, have four adult children and two grandchildren. They enjoy sports, travel, music, theater, travel and cooking. They attend Renaissance Weekend, an ideas think tank established by Bill and Hilary Clinton, on an annual basis.
Matthias I. Okoye, MD, JD, FRCP, FCLM
Dr. Matthias I. Okoye is a physician, lawyer, and a forensic expert. In 2005, he was nominated as one of the top 50 minority scientists in U.S.A. He has performed and supervised over 15,000 autopsies and investigated and certified over 20,000 deaths during his career. He has been consulted world-wide in over 5,000 cases by prosecutors, defense lawyers and law enforcement agencies in the U.S.A. and overseas. He has testified in the U.S. in several state and federal courts and foreign jurisdictions as an expert in the fields of forensic medicine and pathology, legal medicine, pharmaceutical science, and toxicology. He has assisted academic institutions in developing and setting up undergraduate and graduate forensic science programs in several U.S. and overseas universities.
Dr. Okoye is also the director of the Nebraska Institute of Forensic Sciences, Inc., and Associated Pathologists of Nebraska, P.C. In addition, he is a clinical professor of forensic pathology at Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska and clinical professor of forensic medicine and pathology at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, Kansas City, Missouri. He is also an adjunct and visiting professor of forensic medicine and pathology at several universities abroad. He was the former Chief Medical Examiner for Washington, D.C. and a clinical professor of forensic pathology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Georgetown University School of Medicine and professorial lecturer in forensic pathology at Howard University College of Medicine from 1989-1991.
He is a consultant forensic pathologist with the State of Nebraska’s Office of the Attorney General, and serves as the coroner’s physician and forensic pathologist for several counties in Nebraska and Kansas. Dr. Okoye is also an attending pathologist at Lincoln’s Bryan Medical Center and CHI-St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center. In addition, he is the founding principal of the Law Firm of Okoye & Associates, Lincoln, Nebraska.
He received dual medical degrees (Summa Cum Laude) from both the Universities of Lagos College of Medicine, Lagos, Nigeria and the British Conjoint Board, U.K. in 1974 before serving as a senior house officer in surgery and pathology for the Nigerian Ministry of Health. He was a junior fellow in pathology at King’s College, University of Cambridge, U.K. in 1972. In 1976, he immigrated to the United States and undertook intensive residencies in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas and also graduate training in pharmaceutical science/toxicology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He also took a residency in forensic pathology at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland.
Dr. Okoye also earned both a Master of Science degree in pharmaceutical science (toxicology) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Juris doctorate degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Pathology and the American Board of Legal Medicine.
He is a member of the State Bar of Pennsylvania and is also admitted to practice in several Federal District Courts, Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Legal Medicine for several years, and currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Board of Legal Medicine, member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Academy of Legal Medicine, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
Dr. Okoye has been a member of the Academy of Forensic Sciences, National Association of Medical Examiners, and a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. He has also lectured and published extensively in forensic medicine and pathology, forensic toxicology, and legal medicine. He has appeared on CNN, ABC News, and CBS News to discuss some high profile cases. He has been requested by several foreign governments to conduct thorough medico-legal death investigations in some controversial high profile deaths. He is a visiting professor in forensic sciences at various Universities in the U.S. and overseas.

We strongly encourage our clients to view Miami not as a logistical hurdle before their cruise, but as the vibrant, culturally rich opening act. Arriving a day or two early does more than just eliminate the stress of same-day travel—it allows you to immerse yourself in the energy of one of America's most dynamic cities, ensuring you step onto your ship already relaxed and in a vacation state of mind.
**Your Pre-Cruise Miami Itinerary**
Upon arriving at Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), a rideshare or taxi can have you settled into your hotel in South Beach, Brickell, or Downtown in under 30 minutes. We recommend choosing your neighborhood based on your preferred style: South Beach for the iconic Art Deco glamour and beach access, or Brickell for a sleek, modern urban experience with a fantastic dining scene.
**Day 1: Arrival, Architecture, and Atmosphere**

**Day 2: A Tale of Two Cultures**
Start your day the way Miamians do: with a shot of authentic Cuban culture. Head to Little Havana and walk the famous Calle Ocho. Find a *ventanita* (a small walk-up coffee window) and order a potent, sweet *cafecito* and a flaky *pastelito* (guava pastry is the classic). The experience is about more than just the coffee; it's about the sounds of Spanish, the rhythm of salsa music, and the sight of locals debating over a game of dominoes at Máximo Gómez Park. It’s an accessible, genuine cultural immersion.
In the afternoon, witness the city’s stunning contrasts. First, visit the Wynwood Walls, an extraordinary outdoor museum of large-scale murals by some of the world's best street artists. You’ll arrive calm and collected, having already banked two days of enriching travel experiences. By treating the start of your journey with this much intention, you don't just see a port city—you connect with it, making your entire vacation more memorable from the very first moment.
At Sea - Cruising
Labadee, Haiti
Labadee is a private coastal peninsula offering a meticulously managed day of sun and adventure. The setting is undeniably beautiful, with lush, green hillsides meeting turquoise water. You can choose your pace: relax on the sands of Columbus Cove, or seek out the thrills of Adrenaline Beach. The main attractions are purpose-built, including the Dragon’s Breath Zipline, which offers spectacular views as you soar over the bay, and a unique alpine coaster that winds through the tropical vegetation. While there are artisan markets with local crafts, it's important to set expectations: this is a self-contained resort experience. It provides a secure and scenic beach day but does not offer access to or an authentic cultural immersion into the rest of Haiti.
Falmouth, Jamaica
Falmouth offers a tale of two distinct experiences. The purpose-built cruise port is a modern, clean, and secure village of shops and cafes—a comfortable and familiar starting point. Just beyond its gates lies the authentic, historic town of Falmouth, which boasts some of the Caribbean's best-preserved Georgian architecture. While historically significant, the town can feel intense for independent explorers; we find a guided walking tour is the best way to appreciate its rich past without feeling overwhelmed.
Frankly, Falmouth's greatest strength is its strategic location as a launchpad for Jamaica's iconic North Coast adventures. This is your best port for the classic bamboo raft trip down the gentle Martha Brae River—a truly serene experience just minutes away. It also provides excellent access to the lush Good Hope Estate for zip-lining and river tubing, or for the bucket-list climb up the world-famous Dunn's River Falls. Our advice is to view Falmouth not as the primary destination, but as your well-organized gateway to the quintessential Jamaican experiences you've been dreaming of.
Cozumel, Mexico
Let's be direct: Cozumel is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, and it's essential to have a plan to navigate the crowds and find its genuine highlights. The island's global reputation is built on what lies just offshore: the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. For divers and snorkelers, this is a premier, bucket-list destination. The clear, warm water and vibrant coral formations of sites like the Palancar and Colombia reefs are genuinely world-class. For an accessible taste without a dedicated boat trip, parks like Chankanaab or the more remote Punta Sur Eco Beach Park offer excellent snorkeling directly from shore, combined with beaches and other amenities.
Many are drawn by the allure of Mayan ruins, but here’s a critical piece of advice: the famous sites like Tulum and Coba are on the mainland, not on Cozumel. Reaching them requires a 45-minute ferry to Playa del Carmen and then a bus journey, consuming nearly your entire day. While magnificent, choosing this option means forgoing the island experience entirely. It's a trade-off you must be comfortable with.
If you stay on the island, the main town of San Miguel offers a bustling waterfront and a dizzying array of shops. We recommend walking a few blocks inland from the main tourist thoroughfare to find more authentic local restaurants for a fantastic lunch. For pure relaxation, Cozumel’s beach clubs are a popular and effective choice. They range from lively, all-inclusive party spots with water toys to more serene, upscale retreats where the focus is on a good book and a great cocktail. You can easily find one that matches your pace. Cozumel is a highly developed tourism hub that excels at water sports and beach relaxation; embrace it for these strengths, and you’ll have a fantastic day.
