TMJ DYSFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS & EFFECTIVE TREATMENT METHODS

Dr Bowbeer has developed a diagnostic and treatment method for patients with TMJ Dysfunction problems that will give almost all patients major relief in 3 weeks to 3 months no matter how long they have had a problem or how many splints the have had previously. Dr. Bowbeer earned both his dental degree (1962) and his master's degree in orthodontics (1969) from the University of Michigan and opened his orthodontic practice in Ann Arbor. In 1983 he was inspired at a course given by Dr Merle Bean (a Pedodontist in Des Moines, Iowa) on the importance of using functional and orthopedic appliance as part of orthodontic treatment to get the best treatment results both esthetically and functionally. This led to a major change in his treatment methods, and he started a major research project on movie stars and fashion models and finding his retention patients who matched their esthetics.

He wrote his first article in 1985 on orthodontic diagnosis to achieve great esthetics for the publication: "The Functional Orthodontist" and wrote many additional articles over the next 11 years on proper orthodontic and TMJ diagnosis and treatment. In 1987 Dr Bowbeer received the American Association of Functional Orthodontics' highest award of achievement, The 1987 Man of the Year.

He has lectured since 1985 at dental meetings and for study groups throughout the United States and several other countries around the world. He has been an instructor for the US Dental Institute since 1990 and lectures for them several times a year.

Often called the 'Venice of America,' Fort Lauderdale offers a surprisingly sophisticated and relaxed alternative to its more frenetic neighbors. The city's identity is defined by the 165 miles of inland waterways that weave through it, and the best way to appreciate this is from the water itself. We highly recommend hopping on the Water Taxi for a leisurely tour; it’s not just transportation, but an experience, offering front-row views of stunning mansions, mega-yachts, and lush tropical landscaping.

For a taste of the city's vibrant heart, head to Las Olas Boulevard. This is the city's elegant main artery, lined with independent boutiques, intriguing art galleries, and a fantastic selection of restaurants, from casual sidewalk cafes to upscale dining rooms perfect for a memorable meal. It’s an ideal place for a sophisticated stroll and some people-watching.

Of course, the beach is a major draw. The beautifully redesigned Fort Lauderdale Beach offers wide stretches of clean sand, a palm-fringed promenade, and a more laid-back atmosphere than you might expect.

The literary and historical weight here is undeniable. The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is a genuine highlight, not just for the famous six-toed cats, but for the tangible connection to the author's life and work in his preserved studio. A short walk away, the Harry S. Truman Little White House offers a fascinating look into presidential history and the pressures of the Cold War era. For a more tranquil experience, the Audubon House & Tropical Gardens provides a serene escape with its beautiful 19th-century architecture and lush, shaded grounds.

At Sea - Cruising

Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico

Puerto Costa Maya is best understood as a modern, purpose-built gateway to the Yucatán's less-traveled southern coast. The port itself is a self-contained village with pools, shops, and restaurants designed for cruise visitors. For a more authentic experience, a short taxi ride leads to the adjacent fishing village of Mahahual, where a beachfront boardwalk (malecón) is lined with casual restaurants and beach clubs offering a relaxed, local atmosphere.

The true distinction of this port lies in its access to significant, yet uncrowded, Maya archaeological sites. The most popular excursion is to the Chacchoben ruins, where partially excavated pyramids emerge from a dense jungle setting, offering a powerful sense of discovery. For those willing to venture further, the Kohunlich ruins reward the journey with the impressive Temple of the Masks. Another premier excursion is the Laguna de Bacalar, the "Lagoon of Seven Colors," whose stunning freshwater hues are a remarkable natural wonder. While Costa Maya lacks the organic history of an ancient city, it serves as an excellent and comfortable launchpad for a day of genuine historical exploration or serene natural beauty.

Cozumel, Mexico

Let's be direct: Cozumel is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, and it's essential to have a plan to navigate the crowds and find its genuine highlights. The island's global reputation is built on what lies just offshore: the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. For divers and snorkelers, this is a premier, bucket-list destination. The clear, warm water and vibrant coral formations of sites like the Palancar and Colombia reefs are genuinely world-class. For an accessible taste without a dedicated boat trip, parks like Chankanaab or the more remote Punta Sur Eco Beach Park offer excellent snorkeling directly from shore, combined with beaches and other amenities.

Many are drawn by the allure of Mayan ruins, but here’s a critical piece of advice: the famous sites like Tulum and Coba are on the mainland, not on Cozumel. Reaching them requires a 45-minute ferry to Playa del Carmen and then a bus journey, consuming nearly your entire day. While magnificent, choosing this option means forgoing the island experience entirely. It's a trade-off you must be comfortable with.

If you stay on the island, the main town of San Miguel offers a bustling waterfront and a dizzying array of shops. We recommend walking a few blocks inland from the main tourist thoroughfare to find more authentic local restaurants for a fantastic lunch. For pure relaxation, Cozumel’s beach clubs are a popular and effective choice. They range from lively, all-inclusive party spots with water toys to more serene, upscale retreats where the focus is on a good book and a great cocktail. You can easily find one that matches your pace. Cozumel is a highly developed tourism hub that excels at water sports and beach relaxation; embrace it for these strengths, and you’ll have a fantastic day.

Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman offers a distinctly polished and pristine version of the Caribbean experience. As a major financial hub, the island feels safe, clean, and exceptionally well-organized, making for a seamless and relaxing day ashore. It’s important to note that this is a tender port; your ship will anchor offshore, and you’ll take a smaller boat to the pier, so be sure to factor that time into your plans.

The island’s reputation is built on two world-class attractions. The first is the legendary Seven Mile Beach, a magnificent crescent of soft, white sand and impossibly clear turquoise water. While it’s no secret, its beauty is undeniable. You can easily grab a taxi from the port and find a public access point or settle in at one of the many beach clubs for the day.
