Hospitalists ( adult and pediatric ) caring for potentially unstable critically ill patients, Emergency Room physicians, Nurse Practioners, Physician Assitants, Rapid Response/Medical Emergency Team members, Residents preparing for ICU coverage rotations, Pre-hospital providers and Transport Team members who transport critically ill pediatric or adult patients .
Program Purpose / Objectives
PFCCS and FCCS courses developed by the Society of Critical Care Medicine have been taught nationally and internationally to teach non-intensivists how to stabilize critically ill patients (adults or children) for the first 24 hours until transfer or appropriate critical care consultation can be obtained. Both the PFCCS and FCCS courses have a textbook which is included in the course cost. This year, in view of the Ebola epidemic, an additional special session been added to include donning personal protective equipment, biohazards and disaster medicine triage. The PFCCS and FCCS course are formatted with lectures and hands on skills stations which teach the non-intensivist how to stabilize critically ill pediatric or adult patients on mechanical ventilation, and also teach strategies in how to manage patients in shock (cardiogenic, septic, obstructive and anaphylactic). Participants may register for PFCCS, FCCS or both courses. The courses do not overlap allowing a participant to attend both courses if desired. Once registered for a course, a textbook will be mailed in advance to assist the attendee in reviewing critical care concepts vital for course participation. A certificate of successful course completion issued from the Society of Critical Care Medicine will be given to the attendee who attends all didactic and skills stations, and achieves a score of 70% or higher on the post-test.
  • Prioritize and assess the needs for the critically ill injured child or adult.
  • Identify and respond to significant changes in the unstable pediatric or adult patients.
  • Recognize and initiate management stategies to treat life-threatening conditions.
  • Select appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Determine the need for expert consultation and/or stabilize the patient for transfer to a higher level of care.

Ports of Call
Belize City, Belize - From the thriving, pulsating Caribbean capital of Belize, paradise calls. The longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere (175 miles long and second only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef) is dotted with cayes teeming with a dazzling array of colorful fish and tropical plants. Inland, find dense virgin jungles, tumbling jade-green rivers and verdant valleys. An eco-tourist's paradise.
Cozumel, Mexico - The Conquistadors first saw Mexico from the shores of Cozumel while searching for gold. Today, visitors to the island continue to seek out gold and silver jewelry in the shops of San Miguel while having a great time in its many local bars and restaurants. Plus, the waters around Cozumel's sheltered coral reefs make this one of the best snorkeling areas in the world.
Houston, Texas - Rising from the banks of the Buffalo Bayou, the capital of the new Republic of Texas in 1836, Houston holds many surprises for visitors. The city became known for opportunity and self-made fortunes made in cotton, lumber, cattle and of course, oil. Houston is the largest and most vibrant city in Texas. Houstonians created this city known for its education, arts, medicine, energy, shipping and space exploration. Visit the Space Center, home of astronaut training and Mission Contro
Roatan, Honduras - Roatan Island, Honduras is an adventure traveler's vacation paradise with its blue skies, clear turquoise water and year-round moderate climate. Go scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins or, ashore, take a canopy tour, ride horses, explore tropical scenery, shop for island crafts, walk the beach and view butterfly and floral gardens.

Cruise Line cancellation policies are strictly enforced. For that reason, we urge all of our travelers to carefully consider whether travel insurance is a good value for them.

Certainly, if you have reason to think that "something might come up" that might force you to cancel, travel insurance is worth the cost of the premium. Examples we've seen in the past include ill or frail family members and changes in employment causing relocation.

If travel insurance is the right choice for you, we recommend TravelSafe. To visit their site and explore your options click here or on the link above; this link allows you to price out the insurance plan you prefer. The cruise lines also offer travel insurance and we'd be happy to help you go that route if you'd prefer.
