Dr. Hyman is an internist with more than 30 years of experience and head of HymanHealth, which is located on the Westside of Los Angeles, California. A nationally recognized disability expert, Dr. Hyman provides medical-legal evaluations spanning the continuum of internal medicine for a wide variety of legal and insurance organizations. He has evaluated hundreds of workers’ compensation patients around the country, from NFL players to everyday workers, providing credible and thorough diagnoses, depositions and documentation, often using the state-of-science technology found in his office.

Dr. Hyman had served for 30 years as an Associate Professor on the clinical faculty at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA). He pursued medical school, internship, residency and fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Hyman is a highly sought-after lecturer, including being the keynote speaker for annual State level meetings. He has authored various medical-legal and internal medicine topics. He has served as editor for the Internal Medicine section of the Medical Disability Advisor, Fifth and Seventh Editions. Much of his work can be found in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including the Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Archives of Neurology, the American Family Physician, and the Journal of Occupational Environmental Medicine. Dr. Hyman is a chapter author and editor for numerous American Medical Association (AMA) books including: A Physician’s Guide to Return to Work, Guides to Disease and Injury Causation, Guides to Functional Capacity Evaluations, Guides Transition Book, Guides to Navigating Disability Benefit Systems, Guides 6th edition and accompanying Internal Medicine Workbook

Over the years, Dr. Hyman has been a member of the AMA, American College of Physicians and the American College of Environmental and Occupational Medicine. His FACP designation acknowledges that he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and has served on the organization’s Governor’s Advisory Council. His FAIME designation recognizes that he is a Fellow of the International Academy of Independent Medical Examiners. He is past chair of the National Board of Directors for IAIME. Dr. Hyman has testified before the United States Congress as a national expert on disability issues.

Dr. Hyman has received acclaim for his contributions to the medical world. In 2009, WebMD selected Dr. Hyman for its annual "Health Heroes" award. In addition, the City of Los Angeles recognized his involvement with the LA Police Department related to developing police arrest procedures.

Dr. Stephen P. Stone is professor and Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Dermatology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois.
Dr. Stone graduated from Tufts University, and received his medical training at New York University School of Medicine. After serving with the U.S. Navy, he completed a residency in dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Stone then moved to Springfield, Illinois where he maintained a private practice for more than two decades before moving to his current university position. 

He has received numerous honors and citations throughout his distinguished career including Honorary Membership in the AAD, selection for" Best Doctors in America", "Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care" and "Who's Who in America'. He is past Editor-in-Chief of Dialogues in Dermatology, the AAD's monthly audio journal and served as the 67th president of the Academy from March 2006 through February 2007. 

His interests in dermatology include psoriasis and other inflammatory skin diseases, acne, occupational dermatology, and skin cancer. He has been involved as an investigator or subinvestigator in more than 40 clinical studies, more than half involving treatment of psoriasis.

Dr. Stone has given more than 220 lectures and Grand Rounds presentations outside of his university, including such international venues as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and Guangzhou, China, the Icelandic Dermatology Association, in Reykjavik, Iceland, the Congresso da Sociedade Brasileira Dermatologia, Curitiba and Salvador, Brazil, the Philippine Dermatological Society Annual Meeting in Manila, Republic of the Philippines, the Canadian Dermatological Association, Dermatrends III in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Hong Kong, the International Congress of Dermatology, in Prague, Czech Republic, and the World Congress of Dermatology in Vancouver BC, Canada, Kalambakas, Greece, and Taupo, New Zealand.

Trieste (Venice), Italy

Trieste is not a substitute for Venice; it is a destination with its own proud, distinct identity. Where Venice is quintessentially Italian, Trieste feels more like a seaside Vienna, a legacy of its long history as the primary port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This Hapsburg influence is immediately apparent in the city’s magnificent centerpiece, Piazza Unità d'Italia. As one of Europe’s largest squares opening directly onto the sea, its perimeter is lined with grand neoclassical buildings and historic literary cafés where figures like James Joyce once wrote.

A short journey along the coast leads to the fairytale Castello di Miramare, the seaside residence of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian. Its lush gardens and preserved 19th-century interiors offer a fascinating glimpse into royal life. Back in the city, you can explore the remains of a Roman theatre, wander along the charming Canal Grande, and climb San Giusto Hill for panoramic views from its cathedral and castle.

Trieste is the undisputed capital of Italian coffee culture, home to the Illy brand. No visit is complete without savoring a cappuccino or an espresso in a historic café like Caffè degli Specchi. For those determined to see Venice, a day trip is feasible but requires careful planning. The train journey is approximately two hours each way, which makes for a long and potentially rushed day. A more rewarding approach is often to embrace Trieste itself—to enjoy the uncrowded elegance of its streets and appreciate a corner of Italy that feels entirely unique.

At Sea - Cruising

Olympia (Katakolon), Greece

Katakolon is a small, pleasant port town whose primary purpose is to serve as the gateway to one of the most significant sites of the ancient world: Olympia. A 30-40 minute journey inland brings you to the birthplace of the Olympic Games, a sprawling archaeological park where you can walk in the literal footsteps of the first athletes.

The site itself is a stirring landscape of fallen columns and foundational stones. Key highlights include the ruins of the massive Temple of Zeus, once home to a wondrous statue that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the Temple of Hera, where the Olympic flame is still lit for the modern games. The most evocative experience is standing on the starting line of the original stadium, a simple packed-earth track where history feels palpably close.

Adjacent to the ruins, the Archaeological Museum of Olympia is essential. It is not a minor provincial gallery but a world-class institution housing masterpieces of Greek sculpture, including the breathtaking Hermes of Praxiteles and the pediments from the Temple of Zeus.

Athens (Piraeus), Greece

Let’s be direct: your arrival at the port of Piraeus is purely functional. It’s a massive, bustling commercial hub, and its primary virtue is its proximity to Athens, the cradle of Western civilization. A day here is an incredible opportunity, but it requires a smart plan.

Your first priority is getting into the city center efficiently. The metro (Green Line 1 from Piraeus station) is a direct and affordable option that bypasses all traffic. Taxis are plentiful, but be sure to agree on a fare or insist on using the meter to avoid surprises. Once in Athens, the Acropolis is the day's non-negotiable centerpiece. Seeing the Parthenon preside over the city is a profound experience that connects you directly to 2,500 years of history, philosophy, and art. We strongly advise pre-booking your tickets online to save precious time you’d otherwise spend in a queue under the Greek sun.

After descending from the Acropolis, the modern Acropolis Museum awaits at its base. This stunningly designed space provides essential context for what you’ve just seen, housing the original artifacts in a climate-controlled, brilliantly curated environment. From there, immerse yourself in the Plaka, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This labyrinth of cobblestone streets, draped in bougainvillea, is where you’ll find the true Athenian spirit. It’s the perfect place to find a traditional taverna for a leisurely lunch of classic Greek dishes.

Our best advice for a port day in Athens is to be strategic. Don’t try to see everything. Focus on the Acropolis, its museum, and a wonderful meal in the Plaka. By doing so, you will have experienced the profound essence of the city, rather than just rushing past its landmarks. Wear comfortable shoes, stay hydrated, and prepare for an unforgettable immersion into the foundations of our world.

Jerusalem (Ashdod), Israel

The port of Ashdod serves as the gateway to one of the most historically and spiritually significant cities on Earth: Jerusalem. It is essential to understand that Ashdod itself is a modern industrial port, and the profound experience you are here for lies a significant distance away. Be prepared for a journey of approximately 90 minutes by road, a necessary transit to reach the ancient heart of the region. This is a day that requires planning and stamina, but the rewards are immeasurable.

Stepping through the ancient gates of Jerusalem’s Old City is an experience that transcends time. The air is thick with history, and the labyrinthine alleyways of its four distinct quarters—Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Armenian—buzz with the energy of daily life and pilgrimage. The scent of incense, spices, and freshly baked bread fills the air as you navigate the bustling souks. Within these limestone walls, millennia of faith converge. You can feel the profound devotion at the Western Wall, the last remnant of the Second Temple and Judaism's holiest prayer site. Many follow the Via Dolorosa, the "Way of Sorrows," to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a site of deep reverence for Christians, believed to encompass the sites of crucifixion and resurrection. A guided tour is highly recommended to navigate the complex streets and provide crucial context that brings the stones to life. The day involves extensive walking on uneven cobblestones, so comfortable footwear is non-negotiable. Remember to dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered, out of respect for the sacred sites you will visit. For some, a visit to nearby Bethlehem is also a possibility, though this requires careful time management and often means sacrificing depth in Jerusalem. While the day is demanding, the return is an unforgettable encounter with a city that has shaped human history. It is less a simple port of call and more a profound pilgrimage.

Haifa, Israel

Haifa is a city of striking contrasts and profound beauty, built on the slopes of Mount Carmel overlooking the Mediterranean. It serves a dual role as both a compelling destination in its own right and the primary gateway to the historical and spiritual heartland of the Galilee region.

The city's undeniable centerpiece is the Baha'i Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This immaculate, terraced sanctuary cascading down the mountain is a marvel of landscape design and spiritual devotion. The golden-domed Shrine of the Báb is its focal point, and the panoramic views from the upper terraces are breathtaking. A visit here offers a serene and visually stunning experience. At the base of the gardens lies the German Colony, a charming neighborhood of restored 19th-century Templer stone houses, now home to a variety of cafes and restaurants, perfect for a relaxing stroll and lunch.

For many, Haifa is the starting point for excursions into Galilee. The most popular and highly recommended destination is the ancient port of Akko (Acre), another UNESCO site just a short drive north. Here, you can explore the remarkably preserved underground Crusader city, wander through the vibrant Turkish bazaar, and walk along the old sea walls. Other full-day options include journeys to Nazareth, to visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, or to the Sea of Galilee to see key sites like Capernaum and the Mount of Beatitudes. Your choice in Haifa is between the city's modern beauty and the Galilee's ancient history—both are deeply rewarding.

Limassol, Cyprus

Rhodes, Greece

Rhodes offers one of the most compelling arrivals in the Mediterranean. Your ship docks directly beside the monumental stone walls of its Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. The primary experience here is simply to get lost within its labyrinthine, cobblestone streets.

The main artery is the Street of the Knights, a remarkably intact medieval thoroughfare leading to the imposing Palace of the Grand Master. This fortress-palace, rebuilt by the Italians in the 20th century, offers a glimpse into the lives of the Knights of St. John with its grand halls and Hellenistic mosaics. The nearby Archaeological Museum, housed in the former Hospital of the Knights, provides further context to the island's rich history.

For those seeking classical antiquity, a short taxi ride uphill leads to the Acropolis of Rhodes on Monte Smith, where the remains of a Temple of Apollo, a stadium, and a small theater offer panoramic views over the city and sea. The Mandraki Harbour, where the legendary Colossus of Rhodes is said to have stood, is now a pleasant waterfront promenade marked by statues of deer.

Many are tempted by the famous village of Lindos, with its whitewashed houses and clifftop acropolis. It is undeniably stunning, but be aware that the one-hour drive each way, combined with significant crowds, will consume the majority of your day. A choice must be made: a deep, immersive exploration of the magnificent Old Town, or a dedicated excursion to Lindos. For a truly rewarding day, embracing the historical tapestry at your feet in Rhodes Town is often the more satisfying option.

Chania (Souda), Crete, Greece

Cruise ships arrive at the modern port of Souda, a short taxi or local bus ride from the true destination: the enchanting city of Chania. The city’s soul is its magnificent 14th-century Venetian Harbor, a stunning crescent of pastel-hued townhouses, waterfront cafes, and the iconic Egyptian lighthouse standing guard at its entrance. While the harbor front is perfect for a scenic stroll, the real magic lies within the labyrinthine alleys of the Old Town directly behind it.

Allow yourself to get lost in the narrow, bougainvillea-draped lanes of the Topanas and Evraiki (Jewish) quarters, where you’ll discover hidden courtyards, artisan workshops, and beautifully preserved Venetian and Ottoman architecture. Chania is not a port for ticking off a list of grand monuments; it is a destination to be savored. It’s a place for aimless wandering, enjoying a strong Greek coffee, and immersing yourself in the atmosphere of one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful and historic towns.

TRIP CANCELLATION

Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, such as you, a family member, or traveling companion experiencing a covered illness or injury. Examples include:
