PROGRAM PURPOSE

The gynecologic portion of this lecture series will address common issues encountered in the office. Lectures will include screening recommendations for women (including pap smears and management of abnormalities) based on the newest American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology guidelines ; diagnostic workup and management options for abnormal uterine bleeding based on the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics guidelines; and etiology and management of primary/secondary amenorrhea. We will address newest guidelines and evidence based management practices in each lecture.

The obstetrical portion of this lecture series will focus on management of pulmonary problems in pregnancy. We will review the latest recommendations for the use of imaging modalities in pregnancy, management of asthma in pregnancy, and identification and management of respiratory emergencies in pregnancy. Case presentations will facilitate the latter presentation. Topics:
  1. COPD
    • Discuss the key aspects of the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of COPD.
  2. Sleep disorders in women
    • Review the most common disorders and treatments
  3. Obstructive sleep apnea
    • Review epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment options and health consequences of untreated condition.
  4. Cough
    • Discuss definition of chronic cough.
    • Review common causes and treatment approach.
  5. Pleural effusions
    • Review the initial workup, laboratory evaluation and special situations.
  6. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
    • Discuss the typical symptoms, exam findings of patients with the condition.
    • Review treatment options.
  7. Parasomnias
    • Define parasomnia
    • Describe several common parasomnias and review treatment options.
  8. Primary Care Gynecology, Including the Well Woman Exam
    • Modify current practices to align with evidence-based screening guidelines for women's health examination

Arthur Andrews, MD, FCCP

Associate Professor College of Medicine , Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa Florida.

Dr. Andrews attended Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson where he received his degree in Medicine in 1995. He completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Jacksonville Florida. Dr. Andrews, completed Fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester Minnesota. He completed 2 years of research in the areas of cigarette smoke extract and its effects on epithelial cells and also idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Dr. Andrews joined the staff at the University of South Florida subsequent to Fellowship training. He is Board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. He has an outpatient clinic in Pulmonary Medicine, Sleep Medicine and a lung nodule clinic and also actc as Attending in the inpatient arena for Pulmonary Consultation Service and Critical Care service several months of the year and Bronchoscopy service several months per year. His current interests include interstitial lung diseases, bronchoscopy and sleep medicine. Bronchoscopy is currently his primary interest particularly the use of endo-bronchial ultrasound (EBUS) in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer and other malignancies as well as sarcoidosis. Publications are in the areas of COPD and interstitial lung disease and impact on sleep and bronchoscopy.

Dr. Worley is a Board Certified OB/GYN serving women of all ages. A highly skilled and compassionate physician, Dr. Worley has extensive training in high risk obstetrics, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and infertility.

Dr. Worley’s outstanding credentials include her medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa where she had a scholarly concentration in research. She then went on to complete an internship at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and residency training at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Prior to medical school, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with Honors and completed a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She then continued on to earn a Master’s of Medical Sciences degree at Boston University School of Medicine in Massachusetts.

Following her residency training in 2014, Dr. Worley joined Wake Forest University as an Assistant Professor for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2016, she returned to her Central Florida roots where she currently works as an OB/GYN Hospitalist at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach and in a small boutique-style private practice (Alliance Obstetrics & Gynecology) in Winter Park. In 2018, Dr. Worley received certification from the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as a Focused Practice Designation in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

Dr. Worley’s commitment to helping women extends beyond the hospital and clinic. She has extensive experience in resident and medical student education, is involved in simulation training and quality improvement initiatives at various locations, and is a dedicated researcher. Additionally, as an experienced lecturer, Dr. Worley is frequently called to educate other medical professionals and the public. She is also an avid volunteer in her community, proving that her compassion and skills extend far beyond the exam room.

Dr. Worley is certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. She is licensed to practice in Florida and North Carolina.

Miami is often defined by its sun-drenched beaches, but to treat it as just a beach stop is to miss the point entirely. As a port of embarkation or a day-long call, it offers a dynamic tapestry of culture, art, and history that rewards the curious traveler.

Beyond the famous sands, South Beach is a living museum. The Art Deco Historic District is a must-see; we recommend a self-guided walk along Ocean Drive to appreciate the pastel-hued, streamlined architecture from the 1930s and 40s. It’s a masterclass in 20th-century design, best absorbed with a coffee at a sidewalk café while observing the uniquely Miami scene. While the nightlife is legendary, the daytime architectural tour is the real cultural highlight.

For a potent dose of contemporary culture, head to the Wynwood Arts District. What began as a street art initiative has blossomed into one of the world's great outdoor art galleries. Roatan, Honduras

Roatan’s reputation is built on one magnificent, undeniable asset: its location on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest in the world. This isn’t a destination for deep cultural immersion or historical sightseeing. It is, quite simply, a stunning natural paradise. Embrace it for what it is: an exceptional opportunity to swim, snorkel, or simply relax on one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful shorelines.

Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico

Puerto Costa Maya is best understood as a modern, purpose-built gateway to the Yucatán's less-traveled southern coast. The port itself is a self-contained village with pools, shops, and restaurants designed for cruise visitors. For a more authentic experience, a short taxi ride leads to the adjacent fishing village of Mahahual, where a beachfront boardwalk (malecón) is lined with casual restaurants and beach clubs offering a relaxed, local atmosphere.

The true distinction of this port lies in its access to significant, yet uncrowded, Maya archaeological sites. The most popular excursion is to the Chacchoben ruins, where partially excavated pyramids emerge from a dense jungle setting, offering a powerful sense of discovery. For those willing to venture further, the Kohunlich ruins reward the journey with the impressive Temple of the Masks. Cozumel, Mexico

Let's be direct: Cozumel is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, and it's essential to have a plan to navigate the crowds and find its genuine highlights. The island's global reputation is built on what lies just offshore: the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. For divers and snorkelers, this is a premier, bucket-list destination. The clear, warm water and vibrant coral formations of sites like the Palancar and Colombia reefs are genuinely world-class. For an accessible taste without a dedicated boat trip, parks like Chankanaab or the more remote Punta Sur Eco Beach Park offer excellent snorkeling directly from shore, combined with beaches and other amenities.

Many are drawn by the allure of Mayan ruins, but here’s a critical piece of advice: the famous sites like Tulum and Coba are on the mainland, not on Cozumel. Reaching them requires a 45-minute ferry to Playa del Carmen and then a bus journey, consuming nearly your entire day. While magnificent, choosing this option means forgoing the island experience entirely. It's a trade-off you must be comfortable with.

If you stay on the island, the main town of San Miguel offers a bustling waterfront and a dizzying array of shops. We recommend walking a few blocks inland from the main tourist thoroughfare to find more authentic local restaurants for a fantastic lunch. For pure relaxation, Cozumel’s beach clubs are a popular and effective choice. They range from lively, all-inclusive party spots with water toys to more serene, upscale retreats where the focus is on a good book and a great cocktail. You can easily find one that matches your pace. Cozumel is a highly developed tourism hub that excels at water sports and beach relaxation; embrace it for these strengths, and you’ll have a fantastic day.

Coco Cay, Bahamas

Let's be clear: Coco Cay is not a port for cultural immersion; it's a private island meticulously engineered for a perfect day of sun and fun. Think of it as a high-end water park and beach club rolled into one, accessible right off the ship.
