Daniel R. Martin, MD, MBA, is a Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University. A distinguished educator and faculty member since 1988, Dr. Martin recently transitioned to emeritus status after decades of dedicated service, which was marked by his 2026 induction into the Ohio State Emeritus Academy.
During his tenure, Dr. Martin served in numerous foundational leadership roles at OSU. He was the department's inaugural Vice Chair of Education from 2010 to 2023, and he served as the longtime Program Director for both the Combined Emergency Medicine-Internal Medicine Residency (2012–2025) and the Categorical Emergency Medicine Residency (1990–2010).

Dr. Martin received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Indiana University. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and an Emergency Medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he served as Chief Resident. He later earned an Executive MBA from The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business.

His clinical and research interests include cognitive errors in medicine, the treatment of infectious diseases in the emergency department, respiratory illnesses, and leadership development. He remains active in studying ethical issues in medicine and leadership, having published on these topics in prominent journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of Healthcare Leadership. In recognition of his extensive contributions to the field, Dr. Martin has received numerous honors, including the Woody Hayes Leadership Award (2025), the Ohio ACEP Bill Hall Award for Service, and inductions into the Mazzaferri-Ellison Society of Master Clinicians (2025) and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
