With clear signs of blood poisoning spreading up his arm - and hours away from any medical help - he faced a real emergency. As luck would have it, a fellow hiker had recently learned a strange therapy treating strategic locations on the body (acupoints). It probably saved Paul’s life. Fascinated, Paul took two trips to China starting in 1984 - including a six-month research fellowship.
