Dr. Steven R. Bailey is the Chairman of the Department of Medicine and the Malcolm Feist Chair of Interventional Cardiology at LSU Health Shreveport. He is a tenured and Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Radiology, as well as the former Chief of the Janey and Dolph Briscoe, Jr. Division of Cardiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Dr. Bailey received his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, holding subspecialty certifications in both Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Bailey's clinical practice focuses on adult congenital/structural and valvular heart disease, alongside coronary atherosclerotic disease. His research laboratory investigates the role of NOX subtypes in promoting cardiovascular disease, as well as the pulmonary endothelial cell prothrombic response to viral infections. Additionally, he conducts translational research in the fields of nanotechnologies and nanosensors, holding several patents for his innovations.
A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Bailey served as the Program Director for Interventional Cardiology at UTHSCSA for two decades and chaired the institution's Promotion and Tenure committee. He is a Past President of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, the official publication of SCAI. Dr. Bailey is a Master of SCAI, a Master of the American College of Physicians, and a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He also maintains active memberships in the Association of Professors of Medicine, the Association of University Cardiologists, the Association of Cardiology Professors, and the International Andreas Gruentzig Society.
