Dr. Sarantopoulos serves as Chief of the Division of Pain Management within the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He also holds dual academic appointments as Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Professor of Ophthalmology at the university.
With extensive experience in pain medicine, Dr. Sarantopoulos places a special emphasis on evaluating and managing patients suffering from chronic eye pain. Clinical research in his department focuses on preventing the transition from acute to chronic pain, alongside ongoing studies into the management of chronic ocular pain. Additionally, his basic science investigations explore neuronal ion channels and signal transduction in peripheral neuropathic pain. An active contributor to the medical community, Dr. Sarantopoulos has published extensively in peer-reviewed biomedical journals and authored numerous book chapters pertinent to his specialties.
